| Overview:
Gene Express, Inc.(Company) was founded in 1992 to develop and commercialize its StaRT-PCR (Standardized Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction) technology. The StaRT-PCR technology is now commercialized and used by numerous pharmaceutical concerns, including Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Wyeth and Amgen. The Company has developed multiple marketing strategies:
- expanding the distribution of StaRT-PCR products and services by leveraging the established distribution channels of strategic industry partners;
- direct marketing and sales of Gene Express products and services to biopharma leaders; and
- devoting increased resources to the discovery, development and commercialization, directly and through strategic alliances, of a new class of theranostic, prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers called Molecular Diagnostics.
Gene Express markets gene expression analysis products and services and has developed four molecular diagnostic products around lung cancer, one of which is in multi-site clinical testing based on a $1.2 million funding from the National Cancer Institute.
Today Gene Express, Inc. is selling StaRT-PCR multi-gene expression assays used as biomarkers to pharmaceutical, biotech and academic clients and performed at its automated, high throughput Standardized Expression Measurement (SEM) Center. All StaRT-PCR assays are performed under strictly controlled GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) conditions employing our proprietary Standardized Mixtures of Internal Standards (SMIS) and gene-specific primers in the SEM Center. Gene Express, Inc. also is selling StaRT-PCR Kits to validate biomarker gene sets and to develop standardized database of Transcript Abundance levels of normal and diseases samples. StaRT-PCR Kits contain gene specific Internal Standard formulated into SMIS and gene specific primer sets.
StaRT-PCR assays and client standardized databases can assist (a) pharmaceutical and biotech companies with new drug and theranostic development, (b) academic institutions with genomic research and (c) clinical diagnostic companies with development of molecular diagnostic tests for cancers, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, inflammation, cardiovascular, diabetes and infectious and other diseases.
The company is led by a proven management team, including individuals who have worked together before, including leadership positions in major, life science companies.
